The Academy of Medical Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran is an organization established on 5 January 1988, and was approved by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, and started its activity on the same year. The first statute of the Academy was approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) in 1989, and a revised version of the statute was approved in 2011.

نظر به اهمیت ارتقاء سلامت روان دستیاران رشته‌های تخصصی گروه پزشکی و اهمیت حضور و فعالیت آنها در نظام ارائه خدمات بهداشتی درمانی، اعضای گروه علوم بالینی 30 خردادماه 1403 این موضوع را مورد بحث و بررسی قرار دادند.
به اعتقاد کارشناسان با توجه به معضلات مرتبط در چند سال اخیر، خودکشی کادر درمان و همچنین دستیاران رشته‌های تخصصی از اهمیت ویژه‌ای برخوردار است که نیاز به بررسی دارد. حمایت و

گروه علوم بهداشتی و تغذیه از سال 1370 کار خود را در فرهنگستان علوم پزشکی آغاز کرد.
این گروه هم اکنون 6 کارگروه تخصصی دارد که بخشی از آنها در زمینه تحقیقات مرتبط با بیماری‌هایی همچون کووید 19 ، ایدز و HPV فعالیت می‌کنند و بخش دیگری نیز در زمینه تدوین سند فرهنگ تغذیه، امنیت غذایی در شرایط بحران و بازنگری قانون نظارت بر مواد خوراکی و آشامیدنی فعالند.
